Description of Kai Ling Do

Kai Ling Do is a mixed Chinese style, which utilizes five different systems: Kenpo, Karate, Kung Fu, Judo, and Jujitsu. It is for self-defense, becoming physically and mentally fit, improving one's self-esteem, and building character.
It is for street fighting defense and not tournament oriented, however, it is up to the student if he or she chooses to participate in any tournaments. Sigung Gary is the Chief Instructor of Kai Ling Do and sole owner.

The roots of Kai Ling Do can be traced to Ken-Ka-Kung Fu, CHA-3, and further back to Kajukenbo.

Kai Ling Do's meaning is as follows:

Kai - Open, Origin, Starting point, Enlighten

Ling - Soul, Spirit, Clever, Quick wit

Do - The way, the path, School of thought

Sigung Gary Reinhardt founded Kai Ling Do School of Self Defense on March 1st, 1997 and registered as a business with the County Clerk of San Diego.

Sigung Gary began his martial arts training in 1976 at the age of 28 in San Diego, California. He trained for 20 years in the Ken-Ka-Kung Fu Club and received his Black Belt in 7 1/2 years under Sigung Janice Somera. He obtained his teaching credentials two years later from Sijo Adriano Emperado and started teaching his own school in that system. When Sigung Gary left the Ken-Ka-Kung Fu Club in 1996 he was a 6th Degree Black Belt.

It was created in the Hawaiian Islands in 1949 and consists of Karate, Judo, Jujitsu, Kenpo, and Kung Fu or Chinese Boxing. The five founders of Kajukenbo and their contributing style to the art:

Peter Young Yil Choo - Korean Tang Soo Do (Kaheka Lane Kenpo Karate), Welter Weight Boxer
Frank F. Ordenez - Jujitsu (Kaheka Lane Danzan Ryu Jujitsu)
Joseph Holck - Kodokan Judo (Danzan Ryu Jujitsu)
George "Clarence" Chang - Northern & Southern Chinese Boxer (Chu'an-Fa - Sil Lum Kung Fu)

Mrs. Cindy Phillips (linguist) guided Sigung Gary in finding the name in Chinese for his system, Kai Ling Do.
